It Started With a Kiss

Part 15

What did he say?? I stood there, gulping like a stunned mullet as he left the kitchen. I grabbed up my plate, fork and knife and followed Carter back upstairs. How was I ever going to keep up with this kid? I'd just have to go with the flow. Normal rules didn't seem to apply around Carter.

Back in his room, Carter put some music on. (Guess who that would be?) Then he sat cross-legged on the floor and indicated that I should do the same. I sat down, facing him, and he swapped the plates around. He took my omelet and put his in front of me.

He cut a piece off, pushed it on the fork and held it up to my mouth. Was he going to feed it to me? He was; he did, so I started feeding him. We ate the meal in silence, just lots of grins at each other as he fed my omelet to me and I fed his to him.

It was weird for a start, but it was fun and it was sort of intimate too. Sharing. And, I sprung a boner. Bugger it!

We finished, he wiped his lips and then he wiped mine, and he kissed me.

"Thank you, Davey. That was good, really good. I've always wanted to do that."

"Well you're ahead of me - I've never thought of doing something like that. But it was nice, I liked it. Thanks Carter."

"Thank you, my friend. We're going to do lots of things; I've got years of catching up to do. But that's enough for one day, I'm going to bed. Do you want to sleep here or shall we go over to your room?"

('To bed? To sleep together - I don't think so!')

"No, Carter. We can't do that. You stay and sleep here, I'm going home to my own bed."

"I stay here and you go home? But I want to sleep with you, why can't we do that?"

"Because we can't, we just can't. Sometime, maybe, but not tonight. There's school tomorrow and if I spent the night in your bed, I wouldn't sleep all night.'

"But, I don't see why not. It's a big bed, there's plenty of room. Why can't we sleep together? I wouldn't disturb you."

"But you would. You would disturb me very much, just by being there in the same bed. Hell, even in the same room you would. I need to get some sleep and I couldn't if you were there."

"Why couldn't you? You sleep with Chalky sometimes. Am I that horrible? Don't you like me, Davey?"

"I do, Carter. I like you very much - too much. I am gay and you are beautiful. I'd never get to sleep if you were lying next to me, that'd just be torture. I like you and I'm very attracted to you, so we can't."

"Oh. Well, that's no problem then. We'll have sex if you like. You can fuck me or whatever. We'll get that out of the way and then we'll go to sleep."

"Ah, Shit, Carter! No! No way - not like that. I can't, I can't, I can't!"

I was crying as I fled from his room. I ran down the stairs, out of the house and across and into mine. I didn't stop until I'd reached my room, locked the door and flung myself onto the bed. Then I cried myself to sleep.

I wanted Carter, I really did. I'd never been turned on so much by anyone in my life, but I didn't want to "fuck him and get that out of the way." I was sick of dry emotionless sex, I wanted to love and be loved. I wanted to make love to him and I wanted him to love me too - love me, not just fuck me.

But, it wasn't going to happen, was it? A phenomenal person like Carter was never going to love a dud like me.

"If this is love, well, it sucks. I'm not going back over there, it's too hard. I'm just going to stay away from now on. I don't want to get any more involved with Carter. The more I see him, the more I want him and that's just going to lead to trouble."

I woke up in the morning and I could still see his face.

'Damm. I'm not, I'm not going to keep fixating on Carter.'

I screwed my eyes shut tight, and then opened them again. His face was still there. Carter was there, really there - he was sitting on the computer chair next to my bed. Just sitting there quietly, staring at me.

'But. . .I locked the door last night, didn't I? How did he get in here? What's he doing here anyway?'

I lifted my head up and looked over at the window. It was wide open, but that proved nothing. I always slept with the window open anyway.

"Umm, Carter? What are you doing here?"

"Watching. Waiting. Worrying. Will I have a friend today? I brought you an omelet."

"You what? An omelet? But why?"

"To pay you back, to say sorry. That was really good last night. We were good until then. Can we start again from the omelet?"

His eyes were blue today - a really dark, rich, blue colour. They were fixed on me and they were pleading, like a hungry puppy's.

Or, was that just what I wanted to see? I couldn't help it, I couldn't resist those eyes.

"Yes, you've got a friend today, and a hungry one too. Where's this omelet?"

Carter's face lit up as he beamed that glorious smile at me and all my resolutions from last night flew out the window.

The window? As he was bending forward, getting whatever from the floor, I just had to ask.

"Carter? How did you get in here? The door's locked, isn't it?"

"Yes, the door's locked. I thought I wasn't going to get in. The omelet's cold, sorry. I didn't want to wake you up. Do you want me to go and reheat it for you? Or, I could get Marie to make another one."

"No. Nothing wrong with a cold omelet. It'll be fine."

"These are yours." He handed me a knife and fork, then a plate with an omelet.

"And that is mine, and this is yours." He came up with another one from the floor and shuffled around to sit closer to me.

"But, Carter, we're on the second storey and the window's way up high. How did you get in?"

"I came up a ladder, of course. What did you think?"

"To tell the truth, I wouldn't be surprised if you could fly across."

"You wouldn't? I would, I'd be very surprised. Shall we eat?"

And we sat and fed each other with cold omelets. They were good too, much better than my efforts. I could get used to this, I really liked it. It wasn't even weird this time. I really liked Carter.

We finished, I waited for him to kiss me, but he didn't - so I kissed him.

"Thank you, Carter, and thank you for being my friend. You're bloody incredible."

"Me? No, I'm just strange. You have to teach me to stop that. Make me normal, Davey."

"I wouldn't want to do that. I like you just the way you are.

"I like you too. I love you, Davey."

'Ah shit, Carter! Don't do this to me.'

"You can't say that, you don't even know me. Wait until you do, you might not even like me."

"I like you, Davey. I like you a lot. When are you going to go and crawl to Chalky?"

"Chalky. Yes. I'll see him today, at school or later. We'll fix it, but don't you think for one minute that I won't want you in my life as well."

"Thank you, Friend. Now I'll tell you something about Carter. There are two words that Carter never listens to - one is don't and the other is can't. So are you going to school today then?"

"Yes, of course. Aren't you?"

"No, I wasn't planning on it - too much to do. See you later, Davey. I hope that you're Chalky's friend when I do."

He put the plates and cutlery in a supermarket bag, climbed out the window and was gone.

I just sighed and lay back, trying to catch up on where we'd been. Then I leapt out of bed to look out the window. Carter was walking away home with his supermarket bag in one hand and an aluminium ladder in the other.

"He can't fly, of course he can't." (But I still wouldn't be surprised if he did - Carter doesn't listen to can't.)

I walked to school with Bruce. On the way there, he wanted to know what I was doing with Carter last night.

"You're not screwing that loony, are you, Davey?"

"No, I'm not and he's not a loony either."

"Yeah, I know. They all say that he's just Carter. Looks like a loony to me."

"Cut it out, Bruce. He is not. He is just Carter and he's my friend too."

"Oh-kay. You know what they say about birds of a feather. So you're not screwing him, is he screwing you, or were you just jacking off?"

"It was nothing like that. What you saw was nothing sexual."

"Nothing sexual? Bloody looked like it! What were you both doing naked then?"

"He said that he wanted to see me - just me and not my clothes. I guess he was showing me Carter as well."

"What was he kissing you for then?"

"That's how he says thank you. He does it all the time, there's nothing sexual about it. I don't think Carter even thinks about sex. He said he can't be bothered with all that."

"Can't be bothered with sex? He is a bloody loony! Doesn't mind flashing a lot of skin around, does he?"

"He doesn't, but he's not flashing it. He just doesn't worry about it, I think. Bruce, please don't call him a loony. He heard Chalky saying that the other day and it hurt him. He's not and he's my friend. I really like him."

"Okay, cool. Don't you go turning into a loony though. No more than you usually are."

"Shut the fuck up, Bruce.'

I found Chalky at lunchtime. He was sitting eating in the shade of the trees, over next to Pattinson Park Racecourse, where he usually does. Chalky avoids sitting out in the sun, being fair-skinned and all that. He was with a girl, Melissa Scott, that was new. He must have been serious about getting a girlfriend.

"Hey, Chalky.'

"Hey yourself, Fuckwit."

"C'mon Chalky, don't be like that. I'm sorry, okay?"

"You're sorry? Okay, I guess. How come you're not eating with your new friend?"

"With Carter? He didn't come to school today. I'd rather eat with my old friend anyway."

('Not!')

"And who would that be?"

"Chalky White, you know damm well who my oldest friend is. Want me to tell Melissa which end of the bath you like to sit in? Or, what you used to do with the cold tap?"

"Shut the fuck up, Coddington!" (He grinned though.)

"So, are we okay, Chalky?"

"Yeah, we're tight. I don't much like your new friend though."

"You don't have to, but I do. You should give him a chance, get to know him. You'd like him. Anyway, his family all like him, you wouldn't want to get offside with them would you?"

"No, I suppose. You really think that they like him? They just seem to ignore him, mainly."

"They like him. Matt told me, last night, that he'd bust my arse if I hurt his cousin."

"Did he? I wouldn't want to tangle with Matt. He'd wipe the floor with you. But you can tell him that if he starts anything, I've got your back anyway."

"You would? Thanks, Chalky. Appreciate that."

"Well you'd be there for me, wouldn't you? Not that you'd be a lot of help."

"I probably wouldn't, but I'd be there, of course I would."

"Cool. Now, bugger off. I'm talking to Melissa here."

"'Kay. I'll see you later then."

"Not if I see you first."

I walked away happy. Carter was right; friends are important, especially old friends. (I hated crawling though.)
